Child and Adolescent Behavioural and Mental Health

EARLY CHILDHOOD SERVICES (SERVING CHILDREN BIRTH TO EIGHT):
Research is increasingly demonstrating the benefits of early intervention and prevention. Early Childhood Services (ECS) at Pinnacle Medical Services (PMS) provide research-based best practice services to young children, families, child care programs, schools, and community programs. Our EC services offer evidence-based programs including I Can Problem Solve social skills groups, Incredible Years Parenting Programs, Dina Dinosaur social skills groups, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, and mental health consultation services.

PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT & CONSULTATION SERVICES: Psychological Assessment & Consultation Services Department (PACS) offers quality, comprehensive psychological assessment and testing services for children and adolescents experiencing academic, behavioural, and/or mood-related difficulties.

PEER SUPPORT/ADVOCACY: Peer Support Team assists young adult clients through role modelling; understanding and navigating the system of care; linkage with community resources; positive peer activities including summer group activities; and emotional, educational, and employment support. Independent Living Skills groups, Teen Parent groups, and the Young Adult Advisory Council are additional activities the team offers.

COMMUNITY SUPPORTIVE PSYCHIATRIC TREATMENT (CPST): is a rehabilitative service focused on the management of emotional and behavioural symptoms, breaking down barriers to success, and restoring the child/adolescent’s functioning to the highest level possible. Identifying and utilizing client strengths, employing skill-building activities, identifying natural supports, and working with youth/families in their homes, schools, and communities are key components of CPST.

CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS (PRESCHOOL THROUGH AGE 18): Pinnacle Medical Services (PMS) assists families, children, and adolescents through individual and family counselling, case management, group counselling, and linking families to needed services in our community.

CHILD AND ADOLESCENT TRAUMA TEAM (CATT): This innovative program serves children, adolescents, and their caregivers who have experienced any trauma, including but not limited to: sexual, physical, and/or emotional abuse, witnessed violence, or loss of a loved one through death or placement outside of the home. Our skilled and experienced staffers are trained in best practice and evidence-based approaches, including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). A sense of trust is restored in those served and they are empowered to return to their normal level of functioning through high-quality trauma assessments, counselling, and advocacy services.

COUNSELING AND THERAPY SERVICES: We offer a variety of psychological counselling services to children and their families to assist them in overcoming difficulties. Individual, group and family counselling is available both in the office and throughout the community.

SCHOOL-BASED SERVICES: This is a program that involves the training of teachers in schools on different childhood mental health disorders. There is also a lecture for the students on common childhood psychiatric disorders.
